Leonhardt decides the longest final game in league history! – Hockey-News.info

After 80 minutes there was no winner in the duel between EC Red Bull Salzburg and Hydro Fehervar AV19, so for the very first time in league history a final match was decided by 3on3. Youngster Danjo Leonhardt redeemed the Mozartstadters in the 85th minute and thus ensured the 1-0 series lead for Salzburg.

The first final in the Salzburg Volksgarten was a game at eye level right from the start. After seven and a half minutes, the time had come and for the first time in the final series of the win2day ICE Hockey League 2022, there was cheering. Brian Lebler gave the home side the lead in front of 2,343 spectators after assists from Jan-Mikael Järvinen. The response from the guests, who are in the final of the ICE for the first time, came promptly. After a dream assist from Istvan Bartalis, Csanad Erdely scored the first final goal in Hungary’s history in the eleventh minute. With the score of 1:1, the first third finally ended.

ROD PREVENTS SALZBURG’S LEAD
In the second half of the game, the home side found the better chances to score, but without taking the lead again. In the end they only failed twice on the pole. First, a beam from Peter Schneider bounced off the crossbar. Just a few minutes later, Brian Lebler just missed his second goal of the evening by a few millimeters.

In the final section it went back and forth, with great chances for both sides. But the goalkeepers Atte Tolvanen (RBS) and Rasmus Tirronen (AVS) always came to the end of the line. This was also the case in the final minutes of the game, when Fehérvár first had a manpower situation and a short time later Salzburg did too. However, it remained 1-1 after 60 minutes, which is why the first final had to be decided in overtime.

DANJO LEONHARDT MAKES DECISIONS
In the first overtime, in which the game was played five against five, there was no decision. In the subsequent second overtime, the game continued in three against three. And when no decision was made after 82 minutes and 27 seconds, it was clear that the start of the final would be the longest final in league history. The previous record was from 2010. After all, it was up to 85 minutes before German Danjo Leonhardt decided game one in favor of the Red Bulls. It was the second playoff goal for the 19-year-old.
