In the final match played at the Mokpo Indoor Stadium, Sunday (1/9), they defeated the host’s mainstay with the status of first seed Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae with a rubber game of 18-21, 21-9, 21-8.

The title at the Korea Open is the first for Leo/Bagas who underwent a pairing overhaul. In their first tournament at the Japan Open last week, Leo/Bagas advanced to the semifinals.

“Thank God we were able to play well as we wanted and were able to emerge as champions for the first time as a new pair. Last week at the Japan Open we were held back in the semifinals and at the Korea Open we were champions,” said Leo, as reported by Between.

“After this, we will focus again on facing the next matches in Hong Kong and China. Understandably, after getting off the podium, we cannot think about being champions all the time,” he added.

In the first game, Leo/Bagas’ front game was often penetrated so they lost. In the second game, Leo/Bagas were able to perform better to win the game and force a rubber game.

In the third game, Leo/Bagas were more confident. Bagas’ hard smash was hard to stop and Leo was able to guard the front area well.

“Alhamdulillah, I am very happy to be the champion of the Korea Open. Finally, we were able to break the egg after being dubbed the silver man. Today, we can finally become the golden man. I am very grateful to be given the victory,” said Bagas.

“Leo’s game in the front area was really good. His serve was also very good. I got a lot of help. I could play really well from the back sector. Because from the front game we were already ahead, we could attack. This condition made us more confident in the second and third games,” he said. (M-3)
