INDONESIAN men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana have successfully qualified for the semifinals of the 2024 Japan Open after defeating Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura from Japan, 21-15 and 21-12 at the Yokohama Arena, on Friday (23/8).

“Thankful to win and advance to the semifinals. This result is our first semifinal as a new pair. This result can also add new enthusiasm,” said Leo in his statement.

In the semifinal match, they will face Malaysian representatives, Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin. He also admitted that he had met the couple several times.

“Tomorrow in the semifinals against the Malaysian doubles, previously I and Daniel (Marthin) and Mas Bagas and (Muhammad Shohibul) Fikri have also met them, we will be ready,” he said.

“Also after this we will watch the video recording of the opponent’s match. We will study what their game is like,” he added.

Bagas said the same thing, admitting that he would study the game of his Malaysian opponents later by watching match videos.

“As a new pair, we will first study the video of the opponent we will face in the semifinals. With this new partner, my and Leo’s performance can possibly trick the opponent. This will be an advantage for us,” said Bagas. (PBSI/Z-6)
