LH Deputy Landbauer: “It’s athletes like Lena Pressler and Markus Fuchs who have a great role model effect for our youth”
St.Pölten (OTS) – The Austrian Top Meetings 2023 started yesterday, Thursday, at the 15th Sportunion Liese Prokop Memorial in the SPORTZENTRUM Lower Austria. Numerous athletes from 13 nations started. However, the absolute highlights were provided by two Lower Austrian track and field aces, who each set an Austrian record in an amazing manner.
The now sole fastest man in Austria, Markus Fuchs, sprinted over 100m in 10.08 seconds to win the day and set a new record. “The entire province of Lower Austria is proud of Markus Fuchs’ unique achievements. He showed what is possible with hard training, ambition and an unbroken will,” congratulates LH deputy Udo Landbauer on the 27-year-old Austrian record.
After the 22-year-old Lena Pressler had broken the ancient record last year on the same facility, she was able to improve it once more this year and further improve the record with 56.14 seconds over 400m hurdles. “It’s athletes like Lena Pressler and Markus Fuchs in particular who have a great role model effect for our youth. As a representative of SPORTLAND Niederösterreich, the promotion and training of our young hopefuls is particularly important to me,” says Landbauer.
In addition to the two new ÖLV records by Pressler and Fuchs, Victoria Hudson and Lionel-Afan Strasser also left their mark on the event. Javelin thrower Hudson stays just under the sound barrier of 60m with her victory distance of 59.18, which she has already thrown several times. High jumper Strasser also brings victory in his discipline to Lower Austria. He wins with his successful attempt over 2.13m.
