Leka Zogu II and Elia Zaharia Announce Divorce After 8 Years of Marriage - Royal Couple's Separation

Albania’s Crown Prince Leka and his wife Princess Elia have left their eight-year marriage. The prince announced the separation through a note shared on social media. Both got married in 2016. Leka also informed that priority will be given to her three-year-old daughter.

‘Dear friends, full of love, I am informing you that Leka and Elia have signed a divorce agreement. If it turns out that we cannot move forward together, it is better to end it by mutual consent’. It was stated in a note shared on social media.

Leka and Eli met each other in 2008. They got engaged in 2010 in Paris. The marriage took place in October 2016 at the royal palace. Four years later, a girl was born to them. The daughter was named after her grandmother, Gerald, as she was born on the anniversary of her death.

Leka is the grandson of the late King Zog I, who ruled the Albanian kingdom from 1928 to 1939. Albania is not currently a monarchy. The country became independent in 1944. Today the country is a parliamentary republic, with President Bajram Begaj as the country’s current head of state.
