Leitz Phone 2 unboxing review: Leica certification plus a 1-inch outsole main mirror is really nothing to lose

SoftBank last year launched the Leica Phone smartphone manufactured by SHARP and supervised by Leica. With its unique camera capabilities, although expensive, it is still quite popular. Recently, it announced the launch of the second-generation product, which was renamed Leitz Phone 2. It will be sold with upgraded hardware, and parallel imports will soon be available in Hong Kong. Is the current generation of camera systems so powerful? Try it now for everyone.

fuselage details

The Leitz Phone 2 uses a 6.6-inch 2,730 x 1,260 pixel perforated Pro IGZO OLED screen that supports an under-screen fingerprint sensor, etc. The body is 161mm high, 77mm wide, 9.3mm thick, and weighs 211g.

The body of the Leitz Phone 2 has been changed to a square design, with a bright white back and a silver chrome frame, and a magnetic lens cover is also included. The body is quite heavy, and it can barely be operated with one hand.

There is also a dedicated silicone phone case for a better grip with one hand.

There is a microphone, USB Type-C slot and speaker at the bottom of the machine.

On the right are the volume keys and the power key.

There are knurled textures on both sides of the fuselage for a more stable grip.

The top of the machine is equipped with a microphone, two out of three card slots and a 3.5mm headphone slot, which can support up to 1TB microSD card expansion.

Viewing a 3,440 x 1,440 pixel picture, using a square chrome-plated frame, using the screen frame is thicker, and the full-screen viewing effect is average. The brightness is excellent, the colors are bright and prominent, the details are displayed clearly, and the picture rendering ability is strong, making the image more realistic.

Running score and performance

Leitz Phone 2 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 12GB RAM with 512GB ROM, Android 12 system, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, 5,000mAh battery, IP65/68 dustproof and waterproof, etc. Through the “AnTuTu” application program, the score is 844,404 points, the performance is average, and it is much lower than other flagship models this year, which may be due to the cooling capacity of the left side.

Shooting power

Leitz Phone 2 is equipped with a 47.2-megapixel one-inch outsole CMOS main lens and a 2-megapixel depth-of-field lens. And a 12.6-megapixel front camera.

Although the phone has only one lens, it also supports 2x zoom and 0.7x ultra-wide-angle shooting. It has fewer shooting functions, only portraits, 8K videos, HDR videos, etc.

However, it has a unique “Leitz Looks” function, which provides the shooting effects of three iconic Leica M lenses: Summilux 28, Summilux 35 and Noctilux 50, as well as three filters: Monochrome, Cinema Classic and Cinema Contemporary.

Shooting in a rainy environment, it can still shoot bright and clear images in a dim environment, and can present the color of the scene environment, with accurate focus and clear details.

After nightfall, the exposure capability of the 1-inch outsole CMOS is even more evident. The brightness of the image is quite high, and the details have declined, but it is still at a good level. The focus accuracy and shutter speed are ideal.

When shooting in wide-angle mode at night, the exposure ability is still quite exaggerated, even a little bit overexposed, and it can retain many details of buildings.

Through the blessing of the filter, the image color performance is more distinctive, but there is still a certain distance from the original Leica camera.

Summary and Evaluation

Leitz Phone 2 is only available in “Leica White” color, with 512GB ROM and 12GB RAM, and the price is as high as HK$14,800. The price of Leitz Phone 2 is quite high. Although the performance is not outstanding, the shape, screen and lens are outstanding, and the screen display capability is strong. In terms of shooting ability, the one-inch outsole CMOS is of course unbeatable, providing excellent exposure ability, shutter speed, focusing speed, and strong color rendering. However, whether “Leitz Looks” and the three filters are really “Leica” is really a matter of opinion. Personally, I don’t think it’s too prominent. Whether it’s worth the price or not depends on the interest of Leica fans.
