Abu Dhabi – The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, met on Monday on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, the Environment and Climate of the Belgian region of Wallonia, Philippe Henry.
The exchanges focused on the means of strengthening Moroccan-Belgian cooperation in the field of renewable energies, in particular with the Walloon Region.
The two officials also discussed a number of topics related to climate change, the decarbonization of industries, in addition to the energy connection between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union.
They also discussed the future prospects for cooperation between Morocco and the International Renewable Energy Agency, within which the Minister of Energy, Environment and Climate of the Walloon Region holds the post of Deputy -president.
Ms. Benali took part, alongside the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, in the opening of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, organized under the slogan “United for climate action in view of COP28”.
As part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, a series of high-level events will be organized to discuss key sustainability priorities, ways to help achieve climate neutrality in the future, and the how to benefit from the first international evaluation of the Paris Agreement to accelerate progress in the field of climate action.
In addition, this event will look at hot topics such as food, water and energy security, decarbonization of industries, health and climate adaptation, as well as the involvement of young people and women in the climate action.
