Victory in Thun: Leif Schröder-Groeneveld is allowed to go to the Ironman in Hawaii
Thun/Switzerland. Leif Schröder-Groeneveld has made it: The 33-year-old triathlete from USC Kiel is allowed to compete in the famous Ironman in Hawaii in October. The native of Neumünster achieved the fulfillment of his big dream, actually defined as a long-term goal, on Sunday at his very first Ironman in Thun, Switzerland.

While the professional men started at the same time in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, the hour struck in and around Lake Thun for “LSG”, who had not chosen the Swiss pavement for nothing: “The track suits me better,” Schröder- Groeneveld opened up regarding his upcoming Ironman debut following his age group world title in Slovakia.
“LSG” wins in Thun over all age groups
And the plan worked out perfectly: in a total time of 8 hours, 42 minutes and 48 seconds, Schröder-Groeneveld won the Ironman over 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 180.2 kilometers of cycling and the marathon distance of 42.195 kilometers not only in his age group M30- 34, but also the overall men’s ranking – and thus secured the slot for the Mecca of Ironman sport.

“Indescribable and just incredibly grateful! First Ironman, cycled 180 km for the first time, first marathon…”, Schröder-Groeneveld rejoiced. And praised trainer Nils Goerke: “The Kona Code worked perfectly. Thank you Coach! Now I’m looking forward to Hawaii.” The town of Kailua in the Kona District is the start and finish point of the world-famous extreme triathlon, one of the world’s most demanding endurance competitions. On Sunday, October 8th, “LSG” will also be there this year.
