Legislative advance announced to control NGOs and “fascism”

On Monday, August 12, the Venezuelan ruler, Nicolás Maduro, led a meeting of the National Defense Council to review the situation in the country after the presidential elections on July 28. and a wave of protests over the results.

Maduro demanded from the authorities «iron fist» to act against hate crimes and violence. The high military command was present at the meeting, accompanied by representatives of the Public Powers.

«Fascism is criminality, it is hatred, fascism is unconstitutional, fascist currents are outside the Constitution and the Law. I ask the National Assembly to accelerate the approval of anti-fascist laws against hate crimes and establish severe penalties so that Venezuela is healed of fascism and it never arises again»said.

Immediately, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez announced that this Tuesday the AN will work on the Law of NGOs, the law of Fascism, neo-fascism and the “spreading hatred through social media.”

He said that “Fascism has been disguised and made up, and is based on the style and way social networks operate today, (which are) the greatest danger to human freedom and to the peace of the planet.”

For his part, Attorney General Tarek William Saab criticized the UN Fact-Finding Mission, saying that it wants to take on “an investigation that is not its responsibility.”

This mission published a statement this Mondayhighlighting the human rights violations that have occurred since the elections.

Saab criticized the organization’s “double standards,” saying that since 2019 they have acted against Venezuela. However, he said that without any concrete complaints, they have had the audacity to open a website where anyone can create a montage to point out alleged victims. “I have not seen a website for extermination in Gaza,” he added.
