POLITICS – It’s a duel that turns to the settlement of accounts. This Monday, June 6, guest of Sud Radio, Manuel Bompard put a layer on the hesitations ofEmmanuel Macron to want to name Jean-Luc Melenchon if his formation of the NUPES came out on top.
″When he tells us ‘Jean-Luc Mélenchon cannot be Prime Minister because I will not appoint him’, bah so good man you are going to appoint him!”, he launched. “It’s an institutional custom”, argues the LFI candidate in the Bouches-du-Rhône. “It would be a provocation and not to respect the result of the legislative elections”, adds the campaign manager of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, historical examples in support, as you can see in the video below.

An expression that went wrong among the troops of Emmanuel Macron. Starting with the government spokesperson, Olivia Grégoire. “Dear Manuel Bompard, you shamelessly flout the most elementary republican respect. The Republic, is it still you?”, Ironically the minister, in reference to the stormy searches which had led Jean-Luc Mélenchon to use the expression “The Republic is me” in 2018, in the face of an impassive policeman. A scene that earned him a conviction for “rebellion” and “provocation”.
Damn, I said “good man”. I should have said that I wanted to annoy him, that he was nothing or that he was cynical and lazy. It would have been much more respectful for the Republic! https://t.co/NrLGZUUq98

Immediate response from the MEP, who in turn uses irony. “Damn, I said ‘man’. I should have said that I wanted piss him off, that he was nothing or that he was cynical and lazy. It would have been much more respectful for the Republic!”, writes Manuel Bompard, in reference, this time, to Emmanuel Macron’s little phrases often called “Macronades”.
“Insult and contempt”
The little game – which does not elevate the public debate – continued with Christophe Castaner, LREM deputy and president of the majority group in the National Assembly who in turn took offense at the words of the Insoumis.
The insult and the permanent contempt for those who were elected by the French.
The rebellious do not accept it, they will never accept it: no offense to them, the French have chosen and will confirm their choice on June 19! https://t.co/71pIurve5K

“The insult and the permanent contempt for those who were elected by the French. The rebellious do not accept it, they will never accept it: no offense to them, the French have chosen and will confirm their choice on June 19!”, predicts the former socialist.
There are two realities as these exchanges take place: NUPES is not credited in voting intentions to win the legislative elections. If she wins, however, Emmanuel Macron will have no real choice but to appoint Jean-Luc Mélenchon Prime Minister. It is written into their government agreement and it is a republican tradition that is difficult to upset, unless you create instability never before seen under the Fifth Republic.
