The reason for this animosity goes back a few years, when Samuel Benchetrit gave an interview to the magazine “Rolling Stone”. He expressed his disgust with Yvan Attal, reproaching Charlotte Gainsbourg’s companion for having stolen his idea of adapting the novel “My Stupid Dog” by Fante to the cinema.
“I’m disgusted,” he insisted, announcing in passing another project to adapt the novels of the black American writer Donald Goines. The latter died tragically in 1974, shot and killed in a Detroit parking lot.
