Maradona exchanged his shirt for the gloves of Belgian goalkeeper Jean Marie Pfaff, who has kept the memory ever since. Then, they met again in 2016. The Argentine star wrote a nice note on the shirt: “For the nice Jean Marie, with all my love,” the auction house detailed.

“I have treasured this shirt for almost four decades, ever since Diego and I exchanged things after that unforgettable semi-final. Competing against one of the greatest players in football was an honour but calling him a friend was even more special,” he said in a statement.

From 2023, Pfaff exhibited the sweaty and signed shirt in his ‘El Sympatico Museum’ in Belgium. The online bidding period has already opened, but it can be viewed at the headquarters of Sotheby’s in New York from July 26 to 30.
