Legendary American saxophonist Pharoah Sanders dies at 81

The legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders passed away on Saturday at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 81.reported the record company Luaka Bop.

“We are devastated to share that Pharoah Sanders has passed away. He died peacefully surrounded by family and friends. in Los Angeles this morning. Forever and ever, the most beautiful human being, may he rest in peace,” the company said in a message posted on social media.

Born in Little Rock (Arkansas) in 1940saxophonist and composer He began his professional career in the early sixties.

It was in 1965 when he began to gain notoriety following joining the john’s band Coltranewith which he began to record discs.

They worked together on various projects until the legendary saxophonist – one of the most notorious jazz figures of the 20th century – died of cancer in 1967.

In his more than sixty-year career, Sanders has recorded as a solo artist or in collaboration with other artists. (Coltrane and Leon Thomas, among the best known), more than thirty albums.

Described by critics as the great figure of “spiritual jazz” and as the creator of “a corpulent, pulsating and enveloping sound”, the composer adopted “free jazz” as his banner.

His most recent album was ‘Promises’, released in 2021a collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sam Shepherd, the electronic music producer known as Floating Points.
