Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong met with the President of Panama on the 13th (local time) and asked to support Busan as the host of the 2030 World Expo.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 14th, Vice Chairman Lee emphasized the merits and necessity of holding Expo Busan while discussing ways to expand cooperation between Samsung and Panama companies with President Laurentino Cortiso at the Presidential Palace in Panama City the day before. Panama was the country where Samsung Electronics first exported color TVs in 1977 and the country where it first established overseas branches.

Earlier on the 8th, Vice Chairman Lee visited Mexico President Andres Manuel López Obrador and requested support for the Busan Expo, and continued activities to support the bid in Panama.

Vice-President Lee Seok-yeol, who started the Busan Expo bid as a special envoy of President Yoon Seok-yeol, is visiting Central American countries while also checking the current status of Samsung Electronics’ local business and strategies. In Panama, he held a meeting with the head of the Central and South America region and took care of major issues in person.

Vice Chairman Lee, who celebrated Chuseok during his visit to Central America, sent a set of oysters in his name as a Chuseok gift to the Korean families of 20 long-term business trip employees dispatched to Samsung’s major global business sites separately from the local schedule. In addition, Samsung Electronics’ latest mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs, were presented to a total of 86 Samsung affiliates, including 10 multi-child families with 6 or more children, to encourage employees who work and raise children at the same time.

Vice Chairman Lee was originally expected to return to Korea due to a trial on the 15th, but at this trial, he submitted a written reason for non-appearance, including plans for the president’s special envoy activity, and decided not to attend and continue activities to support the promotion of the expo abroad.
