Attention is focused on the by-elections for the National Assembly members held along with the June 1 local elections. As presidential candidates, Lee Jae-myung, permanent adviser of the Democratic Party, and Ahn Cheol-soo, chair of the transition to the presidency are expected to run, the by-election for the National Assembly is drawing more attention than the local elections.
As for this adviser, there is talk of running for Gyeyang, Incheon, where former CEO Song Young-gil resigned as a member of the council to run for mayor of Seoul. Gyeyang-eul, where Song served as a five-term member of the National Assembly, is classified as a place with strong Democratic support.
In fact, if the adviser wins the by-election following deciding to run for office, he will become a first-time member of the parliament, but it is predicted that the political destructive power will be great. It is said that the Democratic Party, which holds a majority of the seats, might be reorganized into a pro-name (pro-Lee Jae-myung) system, led by Lee, who was a presidential candidate.
In addition, if Lee enters the National Assembly through this by-election, it is expected that he will run for the party power by running for the next party representative.
In this regard, there is an opinion within the party that Lee needs to run for office. On the 2nd, Song said, “I have consistently insisted that the more than 16 million votes that this adviser won in the last presidential election must be shared (asserted) to win the Democratic Party’s victory in this re/by-election or local election.” “It needs a public debate on how it will be formed,” he said.
However, there are also negative opinions regarding this advisor’s candidacy. In an interview with KBS Radio’s ‘Choi Kyung-young’s Strongest Current Affairs’ on the 3rd, Rep. Jo Eung-cheon said, “It’s not the time to go out yet.” He said, “It’s meaningful to run around the country for support in the June local elections and re/by-elections right now, and campaigning for support in the country’s vulnerable areas. It will be a reward for those who have chosen me.”
There are rumors that Chairman Ahn will run in Bundangap, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where Kim Eun-hye, the governor of Gyeonggi Province, has resigned.
First of all, Chairman Ahn has refrained from commenting on the candidacy, but the atmosphere seems to be becoming an established fact. In order to maintain the power of the people and political influence following joining the People’s Party, Ahn needs to advance into the parliament.
In Bundangap, Seongnam, ‘AhnLab’, founded by Chairman Ahn, is located, and candidate Kim, who was a spokesperson for President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, was elected in the 21st general election.
In fact, if Chairman Ahn is elected to the National Assembly following deciding to run for office, it is expected that the internal power structure of the ruling party, People’s Power, will change. This is because Chairman Ahn, who achieved unification of the opposition candidates with Yoon-elect during the presidential election, is highly likely to challenge the next party leader by establishing a foundation within the party following entering the parliament.
Some members of the party raise the possibility of a strategic nomination, but there are also concerns that the controversy over ‘Yoon Shim’, which refers to the intention of the elected president, may arise.
In this regard, some inside and outside the party are of the opinion that Chairman Ahn should run for Gyeyang-eul, Incheon, where the possibility of the Democratic Party’s running as an advisor is being discussed.
