Prosecutors are investigating the allegation that former Gyeonggi Deputy Governor Lee Hwa-young received 100 million won in bribes such as corporate cards and vehicles from the SsangBul Group, but it is known that the relevant accounting books have not been secured. Accordingly, the prosecution secured a circumstance that Ssang Bul-Bul destroyed all related materials.
On the 7th, the prosecution conducted an extensive search and seizure of the residence and office of the former Gyeonggi-do Deputy Governor for Peace. At that time, evidence was also secured to prove SsangBol’s charge of bribery.
However, the prosecution is said to have caught the situation in which Ssang Bul-Bul’s side destroyed the accounting books related to the former deputy governor before the forced investigation began.
In the end, the prosecution decided to broaden the scope of the investigation, keeping in mind the possibility that Ssang Bul-Bul was destroying evidence. The indictment of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office and an executive of the Ssangbool Group, who were handed over to trial for leaking investigation secrets, also included the allegation to prove this.
Prosecutors believe that the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office on May 24, before the search and seizure of SsangBall started in earnest, printed out the contents of the account tracking warrant for SsangBall Group’s major shareholders and executives and handed it over to SsangBall.
Meanwhile, the prosecution is expected to review the possibility of applying the allegation of destruction of evidence as soon as it completes the analysis of the seized material.
