Lee Dong-guk, who heard those words, said, “Really? “Did you stand shoulder to shoulder with Heungmin?” he responded. Lee Dong-gook analyzed the reasons why Korea has not been able to win the championship. The players are existing players, and just because the coach changes, the existing players do not suddenly change. “I don’t think I should say it was because of that.”
When asked if it was because of teams trying to win with tight defense and counterattack tactics, he said, “That could be the case. In the World Cup, we always have to challenge ourselves, so if we play defense and then counterattack, in the case of the Asian Cup, we are a team that keeps pressing down and playing. As a result, there were too many cases where the opposing teams continued to defend and then were countered and lost after scoring one goal. “So it is not easy to predict the Asian Cup.”
Lee Dong-guk said, “It is true that Japan has now reached a certain level,” and added, “It is true that when viewed as a soccer player, the level itself is almost at the top level in Asia. But Korea cannot admit that. “To put it simply, Japan is one step ahead of us,” he said cautiously.
He continued, “But Korea is the only one that cannot recognize it. If we play against Japan, we always win and lose. However, when we play against teams from the other three countries, Japan beats this team, but we cannot easily beat this team,” he added.
Lee Dong-guk said, “Look, we won the championship in 1960 and have not won the championship until now. “In terms of the current squad, we have the strongest players of all time, so I think it will be a time when we can win the trophy, which we were unable to do,” he predicted.
Lastly, “(Kim) Minjae lost a lot of weight. It must be difficult. I went to the national team launch ceremony, and when I saw Minjae, he had lost a lot of weight. ‘Why did you lose so much weight?’ So, I eat a lot, but because I keep moving and competing, I feel like I can’t control my weight or anything like that. “It’s a bit like that,” he said, drawing attention with concern.
