Bizarre scene following the Austrian Grand Prix on the Red Bull Ring: The three first-placed Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton all had to trot to the race control.
Big post for Austrian winner Charles Leclerc as well as for Max Verstappen (2nd) and Lewis Hamilton (3rd) following the World Championship race at the Red Bull Ring: They all had to go to the race control. There they were accused of violating the parc fermé rules.
The first three of a Grand Prix place their cars in a restricted area, in the so-called parc fermé (closed park), to which only officials have access. In Styria, however, the stars’ physiotherapists walked around in the restricted area, and a report was made as this corresponds to a violation of Article 12.2.1 i) of the International Sport Codex.
Race director Niels Wittich expressly pointed out in his notes on the race on Sunday morning that no one is allowed to be in this zone without permission. Exceptions: Mechanics, officials from the FIA and the organizer, a camera team with a special FIA permit and photographers with an FIA approval
The star drivers from Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes each received a fine of 10,000 euros – suspended on probation. This means that it does not have to be paid unless a pilot commits the same offense once more.
The background to the strict rules: any manipulation of the car should be prevented and also, as the regulations state, “handing over objects to a pilot before he goes to the scales”.
