As summer approaches and the sun has made its appearance, pastis lovers may be disappointed. The Leclerc group has decided to withdraw Pernod Ricard brand products from its shelves. Ricard, Pastis 51, Lillet, Suze and Ballantine’s and Aberlour whiskeys will no longer be on sale in the group’s supermarkets, at least temporarily, reveals the specialized site Beverage Departmentin comments reported by The Parisian.
In question ? A commercial dispute between the distributor and the manufacturer. The two groups would fail to reach an agreement regarding renegotiations on food tariffs for the coming months. “There is no delisting in the Leclerc shelves”, nuance Pernod Ricard, while acknowledging “difficult discussions but which will succeed”. According to information from LSA, it was Pernod Ricard which took the decision not to supply Leclerc any longer following difficult negotiations.
This commercial failure is a blow for Pernod Ricard and Leclerc, while sales of these alcohols generally take off in the summer. Especially since Leclerc has the largest market share in the beverage sector (23.4% over one year), as highlighted in South West.
This is not the first dispute between the iconic brand and the supermarket chain. In 2019, the failure of trade negotiations led to the withdrawal of certain bottles of Pernod Ricard for three months from the shelves of Leclerc.
