Lechia Gdańsk improved their game, but the points went to Częstochowa

Lechia coach Szymon Grabowski decided to make a few changes to the first eleven of the white and greens before the match with Raków. In goal, Bohdan Sarnawski was replaced by Lechia’s new acquisition Szymon Weirauch, whom the Gdańsk club acquired from Zagłębie Lubin. Tomasz Wójtowicz, acquired from Ruch Chorzów, made his debut as a right defender in the first eleven. Next to him, Kosovo’s Bujar Pllana ran onto the pitch in the centre of defence. Anton Carenko played in midfield and Bohdan Wiunnyk played as a forward. The effect of these changes was that Lechia took to the pitch with only two Polish players.

For many fans and probably the club’s management, these changes were also supposed to mean a chance for their first points. Before the match with Raków, Lechia had only two and was in last place in the table. Of course, there was a chance to break through, but the task was not the easiest.

Before both teams began to play, a minute of silence was held in memory of the former Lechia director Zbigniew Golemski, who died a few days ago.

Lechia had more possession of the ball in the first half, but nothing came of it. Coach Grabowski’s team had only one inaccurate shot on the opponent’s goal. This is definitely not enough to think about leading against an opponent like Raków. The guests were also not very effective, so both teams went to the locker rooms with a goalless draw.

Lechia’s dynamic start to the second half gave hope that they would finally manage to score a goal. Several good offensive actions by the hosts were characterized by speed and determination, but just like in the first half, they lacked effectiveness. Until then, though. In the 59th minute of the match, after an excellent long-range shot by Rifet Kapić, Lechia took the lead. Losing a goal had a motivating effect on Raków’s players. They now took the initiative and there were many indications that they would equalize the score. This happened in the 87th minute when Raków’s pressure brought them an equalizing goal.

Lechia, despite playing better than recently, was unable to score a single point. In the last minute of the match, Raków scored the winning goal.
