LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anthony Davis added 30 points and 13 rebounds, LeBron James scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, which he played from start to finish, and the Los Angeles Lakers resolved in the final minutes to win on Thursday 100-95 to the decimated Phoenix Suns.
James broke the tie with a layup with 1:11 remaining for the Lakers, who overcame a 12-point deficit early in the fourth quarter to achieve their first victory of the nascent season. It was James’ first home game this season, his 21st in the NBA.
Kevin Durant had 39 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns, who played without injured stars Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Phoenix led 84-72 at the start of the fourth quarter, but missed 13 of its next 14 shots and had 10 turnovers in the next 10 minutes.
Durant tied it at 91 with 1:28 left, scoring on two straight possessions. He passed Hakeem Olajuwon for 12th place among the best scorers in NBA history.
But James responded with two layups, one before and one following a three-pointer that Durant missed. Austin Reaves and Davis made free throws in the final seconds.
