Lebanon’s representative in the Security Council: Our people are sleeping in the streets and fleeing in fear of Israel’s raids

Lebanon’s representative to the UN Security Council said during the Security Council session on Lebanon that his country is the only country that hosts two million displaced Syrians and half a million Syrian refugees, and it has about a million internally displaced Lebanese, and this is a precedent that is difficult to repeat.

He stressed that the current situation is likely to continue as long as Resolution 1701 is not fully implemented, and as long as the focus is on imposing military solutions instead of diplomatic solutions.

He continued: “The situation in Palestine is likely to continue to worsen and deteriorate and increase killing, destruction and violence unless international resolutions are implemented, especially 2735, 242 and 338 regarding the two-state solution and the establishment of the Palestinian state.”

He stressed the need for the Security Council to bear its responsibility “to prevent the explosion of the entire Middle East and to emerge from this dark tunnel.”

He emphasized that Lebanon had warned more than once of the catastrophic situation along Lebanon’s southern borders, and warned of the danger of the war expanding to more than one front to become a regional war, but what is happening of “unprecedented killing, displacement, and destruction cannot be tolerated or ignored.”

He noted that the Lebanese people in the south and the southern suburbs of Beirut are “sleeping in the streets” and mothers are fleeing in fear of the horror of the Israeli bombing, noting that Israel killed 569 Lebanese in one day through its air attacks, including 50 children and 94 women.

The situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border is witnessing great tensions, and Israeli aircraft launched intense raids on southern Lebanon, coinciding with the Israeli army’s announcement of the start of a “targeted and precise” ground operation against Hezbollah targets in the area near the border in southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese factions announced today, Wednesday, that they destroyed three Israeli Merkava tanks with guided missiles during their advance into southern Lebanon, and detonated an explosive device with Israeli force in the vicinity of the border town of Yaroun, as part of a clash with Israeli forces that attempted to infiltrate Lebanese territory.

The army acknowledged the killing of 8 Israeli soldiers and officers, including the commander of a group of soldiers in the Egoz commando unit, in clashes with members of the Lebanese factions.
