The Ministry of Public Health in the caretaker government in Lebanon denied the presence of the new Corona virus “EG.5”, known as “Iris”, in the country.

The ministry stated that “what Lebanon is currently witnessing from Corona infections does not contradict expectations in a tourist season, in which mixing increases in large gatherings.”

And the Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abyadh, revealed, in an exclusive interview with “Sky News Arabia”, that “there are infections with the Corona virus in Lebanon, but they do not belong to the new variant,” according to him.

Al-Abyadh added, “The percentage of infected people is small and does not cause concern, and the injuries that were detected do not belong to the new mutant species.”

A new strain of Corona is causing panic

monitoring and readiness

The minister confirmed the readiness of the monitoring department in the Ministry of Health, referring to the presence of some coronavirus infections in hospitals to “the large numbers of tourists, and talk of a new wave of corona sweeping the world.”

The minister added, “The ministry is persevering in preparing a weekly report on Corona on its website, and the results of genetic tests will be added to the report, and updated results will be issued next week, and they will be announced in due course.”

He stated: “In the event that the presence of the new variant is confirmed, the ministry will not hesitate to announce this with full transparency, especially since it has the technical capabilities required to determine the type of variants.”

Al-Abyadh said, “The cases are monitored perfectly through the monitoring department in the ministry.”

On the other hand, Al-Abyadh reassured the Lebanese that “the new mutant was not detected in Lebanon, and the cases that appeared belong to the Omicron category with mild symptoms.”

He pointed out that patients who received previous vaccinations showed very mild symptoms, and considered that “the matter is not worrisome until now, and the rates of infections are low compared to previous seasons.”

Corona returns and the world is burning

But is Lebanon ready for a new wave of “Covid 19”?

A medical source in Beirut confirms to “Sky News Arabia” that “things are going well.”

The source expected that “an accurate count of injuries will not be conducted at the present time, unless they require admission to the hospital, at which time the new wave will be reviewed.”

Lebanon is currently experiencing a heat wave and a high humidity that the country has never seen before, amid a summer movement described as large and unusual.
