The head of the Private Hospitals Syndicate, Suleiman Haroun, revealed that he “received a promise from the Ministry of Finance to pay hospital dues within the next two weeks, and this represents a solution to the crisis of dialysis patients, so that hospitals can purchase the necessary supplies.”
In an interview with “Lebanon Debate,” Haroun said: “Hospitals are demanding that a dialysis session be raised to $68, but the Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, agreed to the price of $62. There is a difference of six dollars between the union and the ministry, and we are negotiating with him today.” To reach a result that satisfies both parties.
He stressed that “the guarantors cover the dialysis session by 100%,” noting that “the Ministry of Health did its duty and sent the due money to the Finance Ministry, but to date it has not spent this money.”
He admitted that “there is no room for new dialysis patients, because the centers are full, and this naturally poses a threat to the lives of many patients. The atmosphere is negative, so the centers will not expand because expansion is expensive and unprofitable, and even the number of male and female nurses is very small.”
And about the solution?! Haroun replied: “There is no solution. The issue is difficult and complex, and God helps the patients. The centers are full and we cannot receive any new patients,” stressing that “if things were normal, the hospitals would expand the centers and purchase new equipment, etc.”
