The problem of the health sector in Lebanon is worsening day following day. It is a structural problem rather than a temporary one, which warns that this sector is inevitably heading towards the abyss, due to the absence of planning and financing, in addition to the absence of a health map.

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, the head of the Syndicate of Private Hospital Owners, Suleiman Haroun, confirmed that “hospitals are still suffering from the burden of delay in paying dues. In addition, the prices of medical supplies have increased due to the removal of subsidies, so we are paying their price four times more and more.”

He points out, “Importers are demanding that bills be paid within specific deadlines, and we are struggling to secure these amounts in the absence of any support from those concerned with the health sector. We are no longer able to secure medical supplies, while officials do not care regarding patients and place all the burdens on us.”

Haroun says: “All the promises we hear are false and empty and none of them will be implemented. Hence, we are raising a warning cry. Enough is enough and we are no longer able to provide health services in the face of this unfortunate reality.”

He stresses, “Those in charge must realize the seriousness of the matter and bear responsibility for any harm that will befall dialysis patients. We cannot address this matter and secure supplies and medicines for them due to the high prices of the supplies they need. One of their duties is to work to find a solution and pay all previously accumulated dues, and to provide us with insurance.” Our dues are monthly, otherwise we will fall into the prohibition, as the situation is very dangerous and we must act quickly to avoid any health disaster.”
