On Friday, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the return of Kuwait’s ambassador to its country, Abdel-Al Al-Qena’i, to Beirut, following an absence of more than 5 months.

According to a statement by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, “Lebanon appreciates all the efforts made by the Kuwaiti diplomacy to build bridges of dialogue and communication with brothers in the Gulf countries.”

“We welcome the return of Kuwait’s ambassador, Abdul-Al Al-Qena’i, to his work station in Beirut (…) what brings us together in Kuwait with a long history of honorable stances and mutual respect,” the statement said.

He added, “We take this occasion to thank and appreciate the open and constructive Kuwaiti role that aims to preserve and strengthen relations between all Arab brothers.”

On Thursday, Saudi Arabia and Yemen announced, in separate statements, the return of their ambassadors to Lebanon, in response to the Lebanese government’s announcement of its commitment to stop all political, military and security activities affecting the Kingdom and the Gulf.

In late October, a diplomatic crisis erupted between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, in refusal to statements made by Minister of Information George Kordahi (he later resigned) in which he criticized the Yemen war prior to his assumption of the ministry.

In the wake of the crisis, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Yemen withdrew their ambassadors from Lebanon, and demanded that the ambassadors of Lebanon leave their countries.

On more than one occasion, the Lebanese government confirmed that Qardahi’s statements did not represent it, while Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said at the time: “There is no crisis with Lebanon, but rather a crisis in Lebanon due to the domination of Iran’s agents over it.”

Gulf capitals, including Riyadh, say that Iran controls the institutions of the Lebanese state through its ally, the “Hezbollah” group, which Tehran and the group deny.
