Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said that during the meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level in New York on Monday, he submitted a proposal to hold an emergency Arab and Islamic summit to unify efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Lebanon.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister stressed the importance of urgent action and collective action to protect the Lebanese people and defend their legitimate rights in accordance with international laws.
The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Arab and Islamic solidarity represents a fundamental pillar in facing the challenges in the region.
The Arab foreign ministers held an annual consultative meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, on Monday, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, headed by Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaye Al-Zindani.
The meeting of Arab foreign ministers discussed the developments of the situation regarding the “brutal war waged by Israel on Gaza, as well as the dangerous Israeli escalation against Lebanon,” stressing their full solidarity with Lebanon, government and people, against the “dangerous Israeli escalation.”
The ministers agreed on the importance of coordination with the member states of the Islamic group in the coming days in order to provide a clear message to the international community on the need to stop the Israeli war of aggression immediately.
The war between Israel and the Lebanese factions entered a new phase after Israeli army aircraft launched intensive raids over the course of two days on various locations in Lebanon, which were met with operations by the Lebanese factions.
Large areas of Lebanon were subjected to Israeli raids, including the capital Beirut, dozens of villages in the south, the Bekaa, Nabatieh, Baalbek-Hermel, the towns of Mays al-Jabal, Aitaroun, Houla, Taybeh, Markaba, Bani Hayyan, Jabal al-Rayhan, the heights of Iqlim al-Tuffah, Bint Jbeil, Hanin, Zawtar, and the Nabatieh region in southern Lebanon, and the areas surrounding the Shaara, Harbata, and Hermel regions and the areas surrounding the towns of Shamstar, Taria, and Bouday in eastern Lebanon.
The death toll from the Israeli aggression on southern and eastern Lebanon has risen to 558 dead, including 50 children and 94 women, and 1,835 injured, according to the latest statistics announced by Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad.
