Lebanon: Walkie-talkie blasts after pager, 14 dead, 450 injured

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health has said on Wednesday that the number of dead in the explosion of walkie-talkies in different areas of the country, including Beirut, has reached 14, while more than 450 people have been injured.

Foreign media have reported with reference to security sources and eyewitnesses that on Wednesday there were incidents of explosions of hand-held radios used by Hezbollah in the southern region, including Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

According to Reuters, at least one of these ‘radio explosions’ occurred near the site where those killed in the Pager explosion were being buried yesterday.

The latest incidents of walkie-talkies exploding have come at a time when at least nine people were killed by exploding pagers across Lebanon, while nearly 2,800 people, including the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, were injured.

On the other hand, according to the news agency AFP, sources close to Hezbollah have said that “walkie-talkies have exploded in the headquarters of Hezbollah in Beirut.”

After the pager blasts, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that ‘things used by citizens should not be armed with weapons.’

“I think it’s very important that there are effective controls on civilian goods, and they should not be weapons – that should be a rule that governments follow,” he added during a briefing at UN headquarters, according to AFP. Execute.’

On the other hand, US Secretary of State Antony Blanken has denied on Wednesday all such reports that the US had prior knowledge of the deadly Pager attack in Lebanon.
