The attack first hit the car, after which the couple allegedly ran away before they were hit again in an area close to the road, an eyewitness said.
– I saw them run out of the car. Then they were hit again, says the person, who does not want to be named.
Jounieh is located approximately 20 kilometers north of the capital Beirut. It is the first time Israel has carried out an attack in the predominantly Christian area since Hezbollah and Israel began attacking each other last year.
– Not safe anymore
Both motorists and residents who witnessed the incident say they are frightened.
– I do not expect this area to be safe. As long as there are displaced persons from the south in our areas, they will be bombed, says Charbel Nakhoul.
He was having breakfast at a nearby bakery when the attack shattered all the windows in the premises.
Nour Mahda, a 22-year-old who lives in the area, is also worried.
– We thought this area was very safe. Now nowhere is safe, and I don’t know what the solution is, he says after hearing the bang while he was at home.
More attacks in the south
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health states on Saturday that three more people have been killed in an Israeli attack on the village of Zefta in the south of the country.
During the night and morning there were also attacks in the cities of Saida and Nabatieh, also in southern Lebanon, as well as in Bint Jubail close to the Israeli border, Lebanon’s state news agency NNA reports.
