Lebanon: Thriller with Nasrallah

Although Arab media, citing Hezbollah sources, were quick to say that leader Hassan Nasrallah was alive and safe, US officials told ABC that the target of the attack was Nasrallah, who “along with his advisers had just arrived to Beirut for a meeting with Iranian officials”. So he was either injured or killed…

Israeli media are on the same wavelength, reporting that if the leader of Hezbollah was at the scene, it is certain that he was injured or killed.

Lebanon: Massive attack – Hezbollah’s “No. 2” dead

It is considered almost certain, however, that Hashim Safi al-Din, Hezbollah’s No. 2 and “right hand” of Nasrallah, died in the Beirut attack.

The attack took place in one of the most densely populated southern suburbs of Beirut, with the explosions rocking the entire Lebanese capital.

According to a statement from the Israeli Armed Forces, a “precision strike” was carried out on the Hezbollah Headquarters, which was located under residential buildings in Beirut.

After the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office said he was returning early from the US, cutting short his trip as they prepare for retaliation from Iraq.

Earlier the Israeli military announced it had launched new strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, minutes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN in a confirmation that military operations against the Lebanese armed movement would continue.
