Lebanon Presidential Elections: Calls for External Intervention Spark Controversy

MTV information reported that the Lebanese-American Coordination Committee will send a letter to the US Secretary of State asking him to send a letter to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to keep the sessions open on June 14 to elect a new president for Lebanon.

In an immediate comment on this information, a member of the “Development and Liberation” bloc, Representative Dr. Qassem Hashem, said: “The least that can be said to those who belong to this committee is that if you are not ashamed, then say what you want and do whatever you want, serving the outside world and the interests of others at the expense of sovereignty and national dignity.” To those and others like them, we say, you should have called on the Lebanese to seize the opportunity to extricate Lebanon from its crises through an internal national debate away from the dictates and signals of the outside, instead of begging and summoning the outside and its interests to invest on internal differences and pass its projects at the expense of the unifying national interest. Some of the Lebanese, inside and outside the country, are aware of some lapses that bring nothing but ruin to the country.
