Fayyad announced in a statement published by the Lebanese Ministry of Energy that the cost of this station will be financed from the budget of the Ministry of Energy and Water, and it will be connected to the national grid of the Electricité du Liban.
He pointed out that this station “will be built on the course of the Beirut River in the Lebanese capital, and will be the largest solar energy project to be built in Lebanon to date.”
The ministry called on companies specialized in the solar energy sector to participate in this project “because of its positive impact, especially after improving the financial terms of the contract, which allows contractors to receive their dues according to the exchange rate on the payment date, thus protecting them from the risks of currency fluctuations.”
The ministry indicated in its statement that the period for submitting bids extends for 45 days from today, September 11, 2024.
It is worth noting that the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water had previously established a station on the Beirut River with a capacity of 1 megawatt, and it has been operating excellently since its establishment.
The Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water attaches great importance to developing the solar energy market in Lebanon, as the total installed capacity to date has reached approximately 1,500 megawatts, which constitutes 20% of the country’s energy consumption.
The Ministry has recently completed preparing the “National Renewable Energy Plan” for the years 2024-2030, through which it aims to exceed the 30% threshold of renewable energy in the year 2030, which is included in the sustainable energy development plan prepared for the year 2022, reaching 55% according to the ambitious scenario in the new plan.
