Lebanon-Israel Conflict: 100 Days of Cross-Border Violence

On Monday, Lebanese Hezbollah and the Israeli occupation army continued their mutual bombardment on both sides of the border, for the 100th day since the outbreak of attacks between them on October 8, while Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib welcomed American mediation to reduce the escalation with Israel.

Hezbollah announced that it had carried out 7 operations once morest Israeli military sites off the southern border of Lebanon.

The party said that its fighters targeted with missiles two gatherings of Israeli occupation soldiers in the vicinity of the “Ramim” and “Metat” barracks.

The party also targeted the “Al-Malikiyah”, “Al-Sammaqa” and “Barkat Risha” sites with guided missiles, in addition to bombing the newly developed spy equipment in the vicinity of the “Al-Matula” site, confirming direct hits in the four sites.

On the other hand, the Israeli army said that its planes and artillery bombed Hezbollah military equipment in southern Lebanon.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that Israeli artillery bombed the vicinity of the towns of Al-Dhahira, Hanin, Al-Jabban, Shihin, Markaba, Rab Thilaine, Mays Al-Jabal, Al-Fardis, and Rashaya Al-Fakhar, in southern Lebanon.

The official Lebanese News Agency reported that Israeli army artillery targeted the outskirts of the towns of Sarda and the Marjayoun Plain in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.

The agency said that Israeli reconnaissance aircraft have been flying since last night, Sunday, over the villages adjacent to the Blue Line in the western and central sectors, coinciding with the launching of flare bombs over the villages of Tire and Bint Jbeil districts.

American mediation

Politically, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib welcomed today, Monday, the readiness of the United States of America to mediate with the aim of reducing the escalation with Israel and restoring calm and stability to southern Lebanon.

Bou Habib’s words came during his meeting with the Charge d’Affaires of the Washington Embassy in Beirut, Lisa Johnson, according to a statement by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, Bou Habib said that Lebanon received with satisfaction the readiness of the United States of America to mediate in reducing the escalation and restoring calm and stability to the south.

The minister continued, “We are engaging in dialogue with the American side with openness and a positive spirit to reach sustainable solutions that preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and guarantee rights, security, and stability, especially for the people of southern Lebanon.”

Last Thursday, the US President’s special envoy for global energy security, Amos Hockstein, who handles indirect negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, called from Beirut to calm the situation in southern Lebanon and work on a temporary compromise with Israel to avoid the worst.

In “solidarity with the Gaza Strip”, Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have exchanged intermittent daily bombardment with Israel since October 8, 2023, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries on both sides of the border, including civilians and journalists.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which to date has left 24,100 martyrs and 60,832 injured, and caused the displacement of more than 85% of the Gaza Strip’s population (equivalent to 1,900,000 people), according to the Gaza Strip authorities and the United Nations.
