Lebanon: How to provide emergency treatment in a country in crisis?

2023-07-10 08:00:04

August 4, 2020. The explosions at the port of Beirut leave 215 dead and nearly 6,500 injured. Four hospitals are partially or totally destroyed. Several hundred wounded were then taken to the Hôtel Dieu de France, an establishment less damaged. Three years later, caregivers there are still in shock.

How to recover from this trauma? What lessons can be learned from the management of this event by relief, emergency and all medical personnel across the capital? How to coordinate to imagine better care if another major incident were to occur?

Within Geitaoui hospitalnear the port, the teams practice simulations and work on writing a white plan, an emergency plan to deal with an exceptional health situation, in cooperation with the University Hospital of Poitiers.
