The Italian base in Shama, located in southern Lebanon, was hit by two rockets launched from inside Lebanese territory. According to initial reconstructions, the bombs could be attributable to Hezbollah, as revealed by Rainews24. The attack caused the slight wounding of four Italian soldiers, engaged in the peacekeeping mission in the area, where a war broke out between the same pro-Iran and Israel militiamen. The episode follows another bombing on the same base a few days later, in which five other Italian soldiers were involved, ending up under medical observation in the health facility on the site.

The Italian Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, expressed concern and indignation at the repetition of these attacks, calling them “unacceptable”. Government member Meloni underlined how such episodes represent a serious risk for the safety of Italian soldiers engaged in international missions under UN mandate. The situation in the region remains highly unstable, with growing tensions between the various armed factions. Italy, through the presence of its contingents, seeks to continue to play a crucial role in peacekeeping operations.
