The more severe the economic crisis gets, the more fragile the health sector becomes, which exposes patients, especially those with cancer and chronic diseases, to imminent danger to their lives, following the medicine became available in droppers from the Ministry of Health for cancer patients.
In this context, the former head of the Pharmacists Syndicate in Lebanon, George Seili, points out that “the Ministry of Health has changed the approved system, to a new, more strict control system.”
In an interview with the “Lebanese Debate”, Saili says: “If the goal of the caretaker health minister, Firas Al-Abyad, is really to tighten control so that there is no theft or waste of difficult medicines, we are one of our supporters.”
He points out that “the only reason behind the patient’s delay in obtaining the medicine is the new control process, and he may get the medicine the first time, but the second month may be delayed because the tightening process within the ministry is very slow, and this is what threatens the lives of many patients.”
He added, “We are with strict supervision so that there is no theft and waste of cancer medicines supported by the Ministry, but at the same time the system used is supposed to be faster, because the patient’s life is not a game in anyone’s hands.”
In conclusion, Saili stresses, “The ministry must take responsibility for its decision, and take steps to speed up the process. Therefore, the matter must be studied carefully, and we as pharmacists have the ability to help them. What matters to us is that the patient obtains the medicine, so it is necessary that we develop a scientific health program.” In every sense of the word, so that the pharmacist can secure medicine alongside the Ministry, as there are 3,000 pharmacies that can secure medicine alongside the Ministry, which helps patients get their medicine faster.”
