A 19-year-old motorist was lucky in his misfortune on Friday followingnoon in Widnau (SG). His vehicle landed in a canal following losing control. The young man, however, was able to save himself and was not injured.

For reasons still unknown for the moment, the motorist left around 2:45 p.m. from the right edge of the road following a right turn, said the cantonal police of Saint-Galloise on Saturday. The car then rolled down the edge of a meadow, before landing in the canal.
The 19-year-old was able to extricate himself from the car and get to safety on the shore. Shortly following, his car sank into the water. Due to the high water level, the vehicle might not yet be located on Saturday morning. The driver was taken to hospital by the emergency services for a check.
