KLAY Thompson asked fans not to be sad but to be happy to be with him as he confirmed he is leaving the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

The 34-year-old shooting guard, who is reportedly set to join the Dallas Mavericks, joined the Warriors following being selected 11th overall in the 2011 NBA draft.

Thompson then led the Warriors to six NBA Finals between 2015 and 2022, winning four titles. He also appeared in the All-Star Game five times.

“Oh Bay Area, there are no words or pictures that can describe how I feel regarding you,” Thompson wrote on Instagram.

“From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for the best moment of my life. It was an honor to wear this jersey from day one,” he continued.

In 2015, Thompson helped the Warriors win their first NBA title in 40 years before going on to win back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.

After helping the Warriors reach their fifth straight NBA Finals in 2019, Thompson suffered a serious knee injury and missed more than two years before returning to play and leading the Warriors to their fourth NBA title in 2022.

“I just want to work as hard as I can and bring as many NBA titles to this region as possible,” Thompson said.

“The best thing is not the championship ring but the friendship that was created here,” he added.

Along with Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, and Steph Curry, Thompson brought four NBA titles to the Warriors.

Thompson developed a solid partnership with Curry and was nicknamed the Splash Brothers for their sharpness from three-point range.

For three straight seasons between 2014 and 2016, they broke the NBA record for total three-pointers made in a single season.

“I will miss you. While we won’t end this journey together, what we accomplished can never be done once more,” Curry wrote on Instagram.

“Couldn’t have imagined a better run with you and Green. We changed the face of the Bay Area. Thank you for everything. Go out and enjoy playing basketball. Splash Bros 4 life,” he concluded. (bbc/Z-1)
