The possibility of leave Colombia without a passport now it is a reality. This was reported by the National Registry on its social networks, explaining that Colombians can travel to the other countries of the Andean community —Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay— Presenting only the digital ID.
“This homologates the new Colombian citizenship card as a travel document. What it means is that Colombians, only carrying this identity document, can travel to the countries that are part of the Andean community without a passport,” said the national identification director of the Registry, Didier Chilito.
In addition, Chilito explained that this new identity document meets high international standards, such as that of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). “It contains all the data and all the characteristics required by this international organization,” said the Registrar’s official on the digital ID.
How to process it?
1. Enter the page of the National Registry.
2. Request an appointment at one of the more than 1,186 offices available nationwide to issue this document. The platform is enabled between 7:00 in the morning and 3:00 in the followingnoon.
Finally, the national identification director of the Registrar’s Office assured that “soon” the service of issuing this document will be provided to Colombians living abroad.
The new digital ID has a value of $55.750 and, as the entity specifies on its website, it must be recognized and endorsed by the various authorities, since they have no substitute. Namely, is just as valid as physics that is currently used.
“Colombia requires an identification that allows access to the digital citizen services of the State and the other entities that provide services through the Internet. The digital ID will be the access key”says the Registrar.
