Opening for Metallica’s M72 World Tour is a great learning experience for a young band like Greta Van Fleet.
The two groups have traveled the road together for the past few months, Greta Van Fleet playing a supporting role for the four horesemen. Bassist Sam Kiszka says he was inspired by the commitment of Metallica in his craft and how the members of Metallica go regarding their job every concert night.
He told New York classic rock radio Q104.3: “Our relationship with Metallica has grown a lot in the last few years, following the pandemic. What these guys do – fill stadiums – requires a lot of consistency and passion for what they do, and they take it very seriously.
“It’s very fascinating to watch these musicians who have dedicated their whole lives to doing what they do and doing it very well.
The bassist adds that Lars Ulrich, the drummer of Metallica, is meticulous in his preparation for concerts. He notably checks the performance of Daniel Wagner, Greta Van Fleet’s drummer, as part of his pre-concert ritual.
He adds: “It’s a lot of work, but they make it look easy. Lars told us that he really enjoys listening to Daniel’s drum solo when he gets a massage to relax before the concert, then he goes to his rehearsal room and improvises a bit. “They are very serious regarding their diet, they eat the same thing every day and they are really into their work.
“If that’s what we want to do when we get to that age, I think that’s a good example to follow.
The M72 tour continues this year and into 2024 and Greta Van Fleet will hit the European road later this year, starting in Hamburg, Germany on November 6.
In Belgium, Greta Van Fleet sets an appointment with their fans on 12 November 2023 at Forest National for an explosive show.
