Chicago authorities are on alert for the possible arrival of thousands of immigrants in the coming weeks from the southern border between Mexico and the United States.
This situation follows an announcement made by Texas Governor Greg Abbott during the recent Republican National Convention.
In it, she said she will continue sending buses full of immigrants to cities like Chicago. The goal of this strategy is to pressure the administration of President Joe Biden to implement more effective measures to stop the massive influx of immigrants through her state.
Abbott said: “We have continued to bus immigrants to sanctuary cities across the country. Those buses will continue to run until we finally secure our border.”

In response, Chicago Deputy Mayor for Immigration Beatriz Ponce de León said local officials are anticipating and preparing for the arrival of large numbers of foreigners.
This coincides with the Democratic National Convention being held in the city on August 19. Ponce de Leon said that, based on conversations with people at the border and Abbott’s comments, Chicago could need more than 25,000 beds to house migrants.
