During a debate at the Plenary of the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, was visibly annoyed by a question from a civil society representative from Greece regarding the case of Freddy Beleris.
“Albania is not Siberia,” replied Edi Rama, pointing out that the case of Freddy Beleris is “a matter of justice in a sovereign country.”
The Albanian Prime Minister noted that the EU has praised his country for the reform of the Justice and added that “no one in Albania is above the law, whether they are rich, whether they are poor, whether they are politicians or ordinary citizens, whether they are Albanians or Greeks national”.
In fact, almost “waving” the finger at Greece, Rama told the Greek representative who asked him regarding it: “I guarantee my Greek friend and any other Greek who thinks like that that things are not like that, that it is a matter of justice and justice will be answer at the end”, he declared institutionally at the beginning, to “wag the finger” followingwards: “Learn to respect justice in your country and in every country of the European Union and in Europe in general”.
The prime minister of Albania emphasized that justice is the one that will give the answer in the end, which should be respected. Finally, he noted that the “Balkan trauma” should not be transferred to Brussels.
Edi Rama’s statement was made in the context of a debate in the Plenary of the European Economic and Social Committee with civil society, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Montenegro and the Vice-President of the Commission for European Values and Transparency, Vera Jourova.
