A saving reflex.

The facts occurred last Friday in the cafeteria of a school in Leicester, Massachusetts (United States). A 12-year-old saved the life of her twin brother who was choking on a piece of cheese, reports CBS News.

During his lunch, Charlie begins to choke on a piece of mozzarella. He then gets up from his chair and walks over to his sister, Amelia. The latter then has the saving reflex to practice the Heimlich method on her brother.

“It was just instinct, I didn’t really know what to do, I just felt like I had to help her,” she said, according to CBS.

Thanks to this technique, she manages to unlock the piece of cheese and save her brother. “You have to talk to children regarding these kinds of life-saving gestures,” said Jason Loverme, the father of the two children. “Whether you think it’s recorded or not, they may not take it into account, but it’s clear that something was recorded and she remembered it when she needed it.”

The Heimlich method consists of expelling a foreign body (object, food, etc.) by compression under the sternum by placing yourself behind the victim of this “false route” and surrounding it with your arms.
