Learn about the types of headaches that indicate an imminent stroke

Al-Marsad Newspaper: Scientists of Ural Medical University, in cooperation with Ural Federal University scientists, have revealed new criteria for diagnosing headaches that precede stroke.

The scientists explained that the headache may be a sign of a stroke or imminent occurrence. Therefore, the accuracy of determining the relationship between headache and stroke is of great importance to prevent its occurrence and treat it effectively, according to Russia Today.

To diagnose the obvious symptoms of a stroke-related headache, the researchers followed two groups of patients. Members of the first group of people with stroke, and members of the second group did not have any neurological problems and severe disorders.

The researchers were able to distinguish three types of headache: common pain known to patients, severe headache and pain they had not previously felt (a new type of pain) and headache with variable characteristics (change in intensity, frequency, and length of duration accompanied by nausea, vomiting, photophobia and sound and was not affected by analgesic drugs). .

The researchers noted that the new type of headache and headache of various features were among the patients who had a stroke, as it turned out that regarding 15 percent of them had a headache during the last week before their stroke, and 15 percent of them with the onset of the stroke.

This indicates that the prevalence of headaches among patients suffering from a stroke is related to the stroke itself, so the scientists considered that the more headaches in patients from the first group than usual, the shorter the period between the onset of the pain attack and the onset of the stroke, and the greater the possibility of a “causal relationship.” between them”
