Learn about the steps to apply for the new immigration measure for the US

The number of Venezuelans who crossed the border with Mexico in the month of September alone was 25,521.

The United States government announced on Tuesday the start of the application process for the 24,000 immigration permits for Venezuelans.

The first step to do this is to fill out form I-134 by people who wish to financially support a Venezuelan national or immediate family member they wish to support, including minors.

To do so you must use the link here.

“The United States government will then investigate the support person to ensure that the support person is able to financially support the person they have agreed to support,” officials said in the statement.

Sponsors must also have legal status in the United States, which includes political asylum and Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Both recipients and applicants must go through a security background check.

After the support person files the Form I-134 with Uscis, the data and supporting evidence will be reviewed to ensure that they have sufficient financial resources to support the beneficiary during the period of temporary stay and we will carry out verifications of relevant background.

“We will determine if the I-134 form is sufficient, and we may request additional evidence to make our determination. If approved, recipients will receive an email from Uscis with instructions on how to set up an account and other next steps.”

Excluded from the program are Venezuelans who have been deported from the United States in the last five years, who have irregularly crossed the border with Mexico, or who have also entered Panama or Mexico irregularly before October 19.

People who have dual nationality or permanent residence in another country or minors traveling without a companion cannot obtain the permit either.

The program, called “Process for Venezuelans”, offers those who have a sponsor within the United States a permit to travel to the country by plane and stay in the country for a temporary period of two years during which they will be able to access a worked.

The United States will only approve 24,000 permits of this type, a number lower than the number of Venezuelans who crossed the border with Mexico in the month of September alone: 25,521.
