The draw for the new season of the Egyptian Premier League (season 2022-2023), which was held today, Sunday, in a Cairo hotel, resulted in exciting confrontations in the opening round, perhaps the most prominent of which are Al-Ahly and Al-Ismaili classics.
Al-Ahly will start the league matches against Ismaili, while Zamalek will play in the first round against Smouha.
The 14th round will witness the top match between Al-Ahly and Zamalek.
The competition is scheduled to start on October 18, and the matches of the four Egyptian teams participating in the two continental championships, Al-Ahly, Zamalek, Pyramids, and Future, will be postponed.
The league will announce the full schedule of the Egyptian League matches in the next few days.
The League announced that the Egyptian League competitions will continue during the 2022 World Cup, next November.
Zamalek was crowned the league title last season 2021-2022, and this season the competition is witnessing the participation of 3 new teams after their rise from the second division league, which are Aswan, Al-Dakhiliya and Haras El-Hodoud.

Rogero Micale and Mahmoud Jaber, coaches of the Olympic and youth teams, in addition to Amer Hussein, the supervisor of competitions in the Association of Clubs, will participate in the draw.

Highlights of what Ahmed Diab, president of the association, said in his speech
– I thank the boards of directors of the clubs, the Egyptian football fans, the Egyptian state institutions, the sponsoring company, my ticket company, the African company, and the United Company, they were the partners in success last season.
– What was achieved last season is only 50% of what we hope for, and the number of fans will increase in the new season, we will start the season with 6000 per game, and everyone wants to increase the numbers.
The season in Egypt will start on October 18 and end on June 30. We will play a maximum of 4 rounds during the 2022 World Cup.
We aim to start the 2023-2024 season in August and finish it in May.
– The League Cup will be different this season, and we will change the shape of the League Shield, and we will announce financial prizes, and new individual ones.
Honoring the legends
The Egyptian Clubs Association was keen to honor a large number of Egyptian football legends from various clubs, on the sidelines of the draw, most notably Mahmoud Al-Khatib, the current president of Al-Ahly, and Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala”, the current leader of Zamalek, and others.
The association presented a special tribute to Mohamed Abdel-Monsef, the former goalkeeper of Zamalek and Al-Ittihad, who announced his retirement from playing at the end of last season.
