Al-Marsad newspaper: Cupping is used to treat a large number of diseases by creating a reverse pressure resulting from the process of suctioning the skin through cups.
And regarding the places of cupping: The choice of cupping places depends on the desired benefit of the treatment, as the places that contain muscles are often used in abundance, such as: the back, which is the most used place for applying cupping, followed by the chest, abdomen, buttocks and legs as the most commonly used places for cupping, according to Medicine web site.
There are two main types of cupping, and they are:
Dry cupping: where it depends on tightening the skin in the cups without injuring the skin, and wet cupping: where it depends on cutting the skin to bleed into the cups.
Follow the following steps to make cupping: Put a flammable substance in the cups.
The material is ignited with fire, then rolled upside down on the skin. The cups are left in place until they cool, and a reverse pressure is formed that causes redness and an increase in the level of the skin due to the dilation of blood vessels.
The cup is left in the same position for several minutes. The cup is removed from its place, leaving a red spot in its place. Here, cupping is considered dry. If a person wishes to be treated with wet cupping, the rest of the steps are completed, in addition to making small cuts in the skin using a small scalpel.
The blood is sucked out of the skin with cups and as a result of the reverse pressure as well, wounds are often sterilized with antibiotic ointments to prevent infections from occurring.
It is possible to use silicone cups or use a rubber material to create pressure without resorting to the use of flammable material.
