Hamburger SV narrowly defeated Karlsruher SC and made it into the top flight of the 2nd Bundesliga.
HSV scored their fifth win of the season with a 1-0 (1-0) win on matchday 7. With 15 points from seven games, the club is second in the table behind SC Paderborn. Karlsruhe dropped back to mid-table and still has ten points. The decisive goal was scored by Ludovit Reis (43rd).
KSC got off to a strong start, but HSV took the lead
The KSC put down a strong initial phase. Above all, attacker Fabian Schleusener presented Hamburg with problems, only HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes stopped him several times.
At the end of the first half, HSV took a somewhat fortunate lead at the break. Reis scored from a distance to make it 1-0 (43rd).
Penalty for HSV withdrawn shortly before the end
Karlsruhe remained dangerous following the change, but did not reward themselves for the strong performance. Marvin Wanitzek shot from a tight angle on the short corner, but Heuer Fernandes deflected the ball onto the post (57′). Then HSV became more dominant once more.
Reis almost made it 2-0 for HSV, but shot just wide of the right post (70′). HSV came even closer in the 87th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. But referee Tobias Reichel reversed the decision, there was at most minimal contact between Karlsruhe’s Paul Nebel and Hamburg’s Laszlo Bénes – it remained 1-0.
