The parastatal company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reported this Thursday about the leak of a chemical at the refinery of Deer Park, located in Texas, USAwhich according to local authorities would have left two workers dead and several injured.

Authorities confirmed that one person had died and another was transported by the Life Flight air emergency serviceseveral more people were injured. ABC13 was informed by the facility that they were “dealing with an emergency.”
“Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reports that at 4:40 p.m. an acid gas leak was reported in one of the process units of the Deer Park refinery, located in Texas, United States,” the parastatal said in a statement.

In the note, the company said it was aware of five affected workers “who are being treated, and the death of two more people has yet to be confirmed.”
Nevertheless, the city’s sheriff, Ed González, confirmed on his official X account about the death of one person and “several more” injuries due to the incident.

Pemex explained that, after the incident, the emergency protocolsas well as the Emergency Care Center of the refinery and the respective notifications were made to the local authorities.
“With the purpose of mitigate the impact, The operation of the coking unit and hydrotreatment units was proactively stopped, and safety venting was also carried out, notifying the authorities under the mechanisms indicated in the protocol,” the agency noted.
Likewise, he specified that no impact on the community is reported and that they are carrying out the corresponding investigations to find out the causes of the accident and to reactivate the facilities.
The plant Deer Park now from Pemex It was purchased by the previous government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) at 600 million dollars.
Later, Pemex acknowledged that the facility came with a debt of 980 million dollars.
