The young French-speaking Swiss artist Leah Linh is offering twelve works at Chillon Castle as part of her exhibition “Fortunes and reflections in the time of Peter II of Savoy” to be seen until April. The artist fills several rooms with inspiring contemporary works.

In the exhibition “Fortunes and reflections in the time of Peter II of Savoy”, Swiss artist Leah Linh honors Count Peter II of Savoy (1203-1268). This is an order of exclusive works from the Fondation du Château de Chillon to be discovered until April 14, 2024.

The exhibition is made up of twelve unique representations in very varied formats which stand for the public in the heart of the fortress: paintings, canvases, sculpture, installation, among other original media. On the course, features are specially designed for children with Drako, the castle’s little dragon.

An intimidating and iconic place

At 23, the artist measures herself once morest a centuries-old building and what she presents there is ambitious, beautiful, powerful, delicate and very diverse. In “Fortunes and Reflections in the Time of Peter II of Savoy” the contemporary art of Leah Linh activates history with personal expressions of today.

This castle has a kind of aura, something very strong and when I was offered this exhibition, the difficulty was to live up to this great character in history

“It’s very intimidating, because this castle is an emblematic place in the history of our country. I went there as a child, I was part of the Drako club. This castle has a kind of aura, something very strong and when I was offered this exhibition, the difficulty was to live up to this great character in history,” explains Leah Linh in the Vertigo show on January 1.

An order with multiple constraints

For his exhibition, the artist worked with the medieval history of the castle, drawing inspiration from the Swiss character Peter II of Savoy, also called “Little Charlemagne”. His pacifist side to conquer territories differently, through administrative treaties rather than violence, make Peter II of Savoy an innovative, modern and peaceful character from whom Leah Linh was able to draw inspiration for her works.

Another constraint, linked to the building: “For a painting, the challenge is that we cannot touch the walls, we cannot hang the works, or touch the floor or the ceiling in certain rooms of the castle. So we had to imagine means to hang these works”, underlines the artist.

Leah Linh’s creations reveal the multiple facets of the artist, moving from painting to sculpture, drawing and installations. And the presence of gold leaf, dear to Leah Linh, links these artistic expressions in the exhibition “Fortunes and reflections in the time of Peter II of Savoy” to be discovered until April 14.
